NASHVILLE – April 1, 2009
– Warner Bros. Records artist John Rich will premiere the video
for his hit single, “Shuttin' Detroit Down” exclusively on “Entertainment
Tonight” on Friday, April 3rd. In addition to premiering on
“Entertainment Tonight,” the video will premiere online at
www.foxnews.com.
He will also be performing the single live on the Academy Of Country
Music Awards Sunday, April 5 on CBS. As previously released,
the video stars Oscar-nominated Mickey Rourke and Country Music
Hall Of Fame Member Kris Kristofferson. “Shuttin’ Detroit
Down,” has already made an impact at radio in a little over nine weeks
as it currently sits at No. 12 on both the Radio & Records
Chart and Country Aircheck Singles Chart. “Shuttin’ Detroit
Down” is featured on Rich’s new album, Son Of A
Preacher Man, which debuted last week at No. 3 on the on the Top
Country Albums Chart.
In
the video, Rourke and Kristofferson play two struggling blue collar
workers trying to stay afloat. Demonstrating an all too common occurrence,
Kristofferson’s character gets laid of from his job where he has worked
for over thirty years. We watch the repercussions unfold, as he is unable
to make ends meet and loses his home. Rich’s video brings the faces
and stories of many struggling Americans to the small screen.
In
a recent New York Times feature, published on March 31, Jon Caramanica
says about “Shuttin' Detroit Down,” “There’s no screaming on
the first great song of the bailout era. No audible rage. No tears.
Instead, on “Shuttin’ Detroit Down,” the country star John Rich,
singing evenly, sounds perfectly levelheaded, as if he’d thought through
his position thoroughly and acquired the peace of the righteous.”
Most
recently known as one-half of the multi-platinum Warner Bros. Records
duo, Big & Rich, Rich has been honing his writing skills for years. He
has made a name for himself as an artist in his own right, a producer,
an award-winning songwriter, and host of the smash hit series Gone
Country on CMT. As a part of Big & Rich and as a songwriter,
he has garnered multiple Grammy, ACM, CMA and CMT Music Award nominations.
He was also awarded the ASCAP Songwriter Of The Year Award in 2005,
2006 and 2007 and has written 13 Top 10 singles.
