First, I want to apologize for not doing the blog last week! The highlight on that episode was definitely having Uncle Kracker there. He was a great sport, and actually flew into Nashville just for the taping. I have posted a few photos from that whole episode for you to view.
Now, onto episode 4! I think we came up with some very unique challenges this time around, and Honky Tonk Olympics was definitely one of them. Let me start by telling you it was FREEZING COLD that day! If you notice, most of the cast wore their worker gloves even when they weren’t in the middle of a challenge. And while it didn’t rain, it was cloudy and gloomy the entire day. Behind the cameras, the crew had set up tables with steaming hot coffee and hot chocolate to keep everyone warm. And in-between takes JR and the cast would hop in the crew van that was running with the heat on to get warm. Luckily, despite the cold, everyone had a fun time during Honky Tonk Olympics. The best part was watching the entire cast running around trying to catch those chickens! True to what they showed you, Sheila E. was nose-diving trying to catch them. Justin and Richard got their hands dirty as well while trying to catch one of the chickens. The cool part about that challenge was that while there was only one winner, it was great that everyone in the cast placed in at least one event.
The drag racing segment was pretty cool as well. While we didn’t stay to watch the cast race, we heard all about it later that evening. It was pretty cool to watch them get behind those cars and race. You can definitely see who the competitive people are in those situations. Since I don’t have much to share about the drag race, I thought I’d share some video from JR and Tracy Lawrence’s race. Click here to watch it! Enjoy!

You can always count on John to shake things up and light a
fire under your butt! And after
observing the cast while they attempted to write a song together for a little
while, he realized he needed to step in and “wake them up”.
We always
see this with the cast. The first 48 hours are so new and everyone wants to try
and get along since they know they have to live together at the house for the
entire taping. But usually the members of the cast realize that it’s a
competition and use that competitive nature towards their songwriting and the
challenges. This cast however didn’t have that competitive nature straight off
the bat, and unlike the previous casts, they had to write a song together. It
got very intense when John was talking to the cast the first time, and then
even more intense after he left and they had to actually start writing.
Luckily, the obstacle course really helped the cast come together.
What they
didn’t show (yet) is what happens after the cast returns and performs their
group song for JR…as well as a special guest that John brings in to listen and
help him critique the song. This person is a well-known artist and songwriter
in Nashville. Can you guess who it is?
